German-Thai Symposium on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology 2011

In 2002, the Royal Thai Embassy in Berlin launched the “Academic and Research Partnership Project” with an aim to encourage and increase academic and research linkages between universities and research institutes of Thailand and Germany. During the first three years, the projects had been focused on agricultural development, biotechnology as well as environment and renewable energy. In 2006, the Embassy started to promote collaboration on nanotechnology. The first project was carried out in 2006 with the study visit of Thai academic delegation to the government agencies, universities, research institutes as well as leading manufacturers in Munich, Nuremberg, Berlin, Dresden and Potsdam. The success of the first project in 2006 led to the organization of the first German-Thai Symposium on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (GTSNN). The German-Thai Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Network was formed under the collaboration network consisting of Chulalongkorn University, Suranaree University of Technology, Kasetsart University, Chiang Mai University, Naresuan University, Mahidol University, Khon Kaen University, Burapha University, National Nanotechnology Center (NANOTEC), National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC), National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC) and Synchrotron Light Research Institute (SLRI).

The network conferences (GTSNN) were organized in 2007 and 2009 in Thailand and the study trips in Germany were expanded to private sectors and more research Institutes in nanotechnology.

4th GTSNN held on 13-16 September at the Synchrotron Light Research Institute, Nakhon Ratchasima, under the theme “Green nanotechnology for the Future". The symposium was co-organized by Chulalongkorn University, Suranaree University of Technology and Synchrotron Light Research Institute. This symposium was among the activities to celebrate the auspicious occasion of 150th anniversary of Thai-German diplomatic relations marked on 7 February 2012.

All interested parties - students, researchers, academics or policy makers, both in the government and private sectors, were invited to participate in the GTSNN 2011. The symposium brought together participants working in the fields related to nanoscience and nanotechnology to discuss scientific and industrial advances, and opened the opportunity for the participants to initiate new collaboration and strengthen existing collaboration among scientists and policy makers of Thailand and Germany
